General

  • The asterisk (*) matches the character preceding it zero or more times, the plus/addition sign (+) matches the character preceding it one or more times, and the question mark (?) matches zero or one of the preceding characters. The dot (.) matches exactly one character.
  • greedy match (.*) and the lazy star (.*?).
  • D Non digit character
  • d Digit character
  • w [A-Za-z0-9_]
  • W   [^A-Za-z0-9_]
  • ^Start $ End   
  • multiple line flag is given (m),
  • Parentheses match and then remember the match
  • RegExp has special characters, labeled $1, $2, and so on to $9, that store substrings discovered through the use of the capturing parentheses.
  • a|b a or b
  • s{2} means ss
